Khuzestan is more than what you think. Because of the three important UNESCO heritages around it (Shoosh, Shooshtar, and Chogha-Zanbil), I myself call Khuzestan the safe haven of archaeology in ancient Iran. Chogha Zanbil was built by the Elamite empire kings around 1250 BC as a religious center dedicated to the Elamite gods. Shush has ancient origins dating back to around 4200 BC. It was one of the most important cities of the ancient Elamite civilization. Shooshtar, located southwest of Shush, has a history dating back to the Achaemenid period. It was strategically situated near the Tigris and Karun rivers. Thanks to the mentioned rivers, one of the key features of Shooshtar was its ancient hydraulic system, known as the Shaduf.
